How N-acetylcysteine benefits the body

Our bodies need certain nutrients and compounds in order to function. Many times, we can’t get what we need directly from the environment, so our body takes in certain compounds and nutrients in order to make what it needs.

One such example is how the body works to create glutathione. Glutathione is thought of as the “master antioxidant” because it works to recycle and refresh all the other antioxidants in our body that combat oxidative stress and other harmful influences and attackers like free radicals, chemical toxins, and heavy metals.

Most of the glutathione in our bodies is created out of different compounds, one of the most effective being acetylated cysteine. Also known as NAC, N-acetyl cysteine comes from the important amino acid L-cysteine and has been shown to positively impact the liver and the respiratory system.

NAC is often prescribed of people who have been exposed to certain toxins, as it has been shown to replenish glutathione stores from those who overdosed on acetaminophen and also improve the glutathione status of red blood cells of people exposed to lead.

If you’re looking to boost your body’s level of glutathione, a formula that contains NAC could be a great option.
